About the artist
JOHN TOOKEY
John Tookey trained at the Sir John Cass School of Art and has
exhibited with the Royal Institute of Watercolourists, The Royal Oil
Insititute and the Pastel Society of which he is a member. In 1985 he
was commissioned by the publisher Gordon Fraser to produce a series of
paintings of East Anglia for a book East Anglia in Watercolours which
appeared in 1986 (and which is no longer in print). This painting of
Aldeburgh beach shows Crag Path on the left. In the centre of the
painting is the northern look-out tower and just beyond this is the old
Aldeburgh lifeboat, which was eventually replaced in 1993. In the
distance on the right is Thorpeness, whose skyline is punctuated by the
second of its two water towers.
