About the artist
(This text appears on the back of the greeting card)
SERENA HALL (b. 1973)
SERENA HALL was born in London in 1973 and completed her first hand-painted tile when she was six. In 1985, at the age of twelve, she moved with her parents to Southwold and it was while she was living in Ferry Road that she began to paint seriously. From Reydon High School she went to Lowestoft College and from there to the Cumbria School of Art. She then completed a degree in design at the Edinburgh School of Art. On her return to Southwold she successfully sought funding from the Prince's Trust in order to start her own studio. In April 2000 she opened the Serena Hall Gallery in Queen's Street, Southwold, where she now displays a mixture of her paintings and her ceramics together with work by other new designers. The bold brushwork and the strong, generous sense of colour in the painting of Southwold reproduced here are characteristic of her work. |
